Florida workers will soon see another bump in pay. Beginning on September 30, 2025, the state minimum wage will increase to $14 an hour. This change is part of the voter-approved plan to gradually raise wages until Florida reaches $15 an hour in 2026.
If you earn tips, the increase applies to you as well. Your base pay must rise to $10.98 an hour starting September 30, 2025. By September 30, 2026, that base pay will move to $11.98 anhour. Employers are still required to make sure your total pay, including tips, equals at least the regular minimum wage.
What This Means for Hourly Workers
If you are paid by the hour, your paycheck should show no less than $14 per hour for every shift you work starting September 30, 2025. That number will rise again to $15 an hour on September 30, 2026.
What This Means for Tipped Workers
If you work as a server, bartender, or in another tipped job, your employer can pay you $10.98 an hour in direct wages beginning September 30, 2025. By law, your tips plus that base wage must bring you up to at least $14 an hour. If your tips fall short, your employer must make up the difference. In 2026, your base pay will rise to $11.98 and your total pay must equal at least $15 an hour.
What to Do if You Do Not See the Raise
It is your right to be paid at least the state minimum wage. If you notice that your paycheck does not reflect the increase:
- Speak with your employer or payroll department to see if it was an error.
- If the issue is not corrected quickly, know that Florida law protects you from wage theft.
- You may be able to recover back pay plus additional damages and attorney’s fees.
